Feast Day of St. Francis, October 4, 2017

I have been trying to say something that will address the terrible event in Las Vegas. But was stuck until today--the Feast Day of St. Francis. Over the last few years I have been striving to be more at peace with myself and the world. To not get angry even when I believe I have every right to be. To not let events be turned into my own agenda. To flee ideologues and pontifications. So today I pray once again the Prayer of St. Francis.

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon, where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
